Affordability of communications products is an issue that affects all consumers, from young people, to families and seniors.

At the conference there will be lively discussions on a range of topics including the extent of the ‘affordability divide', affordability barriers, and an exploration of international initiatives. We’ll examine who is being excluded due to affordability issues and how this affects society. The role of industry, government and consumers in resolving affordability issues will be addressed.

The conference will give various consumer groups a chance to voice their concerns with decision makers while allowing the decision makers – government, telcos, regulators and content producers – to hear first-hand consumer experiences and discuss the realities consumers face.

Last year’s conference attracted some 217 attendees including international delegates, consumer groups, industry, government and regulators, as well as mainstream media.

Affordability is an issue that affects all consumers. There are many barriers that stop people from gaining access to telecommunications and internet services, with affordability often cited as a big hurdle.

In our 2015 Conference session, The Way Forward: the future for communications affordability, we will explore innovative solutions to remove affordability barriers with our panel of participants from a range of providers (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, amaysim, Jeenee Mobile and iiNet).

ACCAN is inviting you to get involved by sending us your big ideas on removing affordability barriers. This is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts on affordability. Think big and outside the box! We’re looking for ideas unrestrained by commercial interests, political ideology or the status-quo. The best ideas will be shared with the panel for discussion.

Share your ideas by leaving a comment on the Ideas Garden page. Alternatively, you can email your ideas to us on this email address:, or you can share your thoughts with us on Facebook or Twitter using the #IdeasGarden hashtag.

Share your ideas with us by 27 August.
